Infection prevention and control awareness training Liverpool Safeguarding Adults Board and Liverpool Community Health are working in partnership to provide free infection prevention and control awareness sessions for staff working in residential nursing and care homes. We will be providing 12 awareness sessions which will provide with up-to-date information and advice to ensure that they are complying with current guidance on infection prevention and control and to ensure that all staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities. Infection prevention and control occupies a key position in the regulation of services and compliance with CQC regulation. In CQC’s compliance guidance, Essential Standards of Quality and Safety, infection control is a component of safeguarding and safety, Outcome 8: cleanliness and infection control. It is an essential factor in the objective of providing user centric care. The morning sessions have been tailored for Nurses working in residential nursing or care homes and the afternoon sessions are aimed at Care staff who are not qualified nurses. The steps taken in care homes to protect residents and staff from infection represent an important element in the quality of care. Families and carers want to be assured that the care their relatives and dependants receive is provided in a clean and safe environment. Infections acquired in care homes may be serious and, in some cases, life-threatening. These may worsen underlying medical conditions and adversely affect recovery. Infections may be caused by organisms resistant to antibiotics and the high media profile they generate may alarm residents, their relatives and carers.
