Training to Celebrate Learning Disability Awareness Week

LSCP is hosting this awareness course, which is aimed at all staff working in a health & social care environment.  A general understanding of learning disabilities will be discussed.


Overview

  • There are approximately 1.5 million people with learning disability in the UK 
  • Less than 1 in 5 people with learning disability are in employment 
  • By 2030 the number of adults aged 70+ using social care services for people with learning disabilities will more than double 
  • Between 25 and 40% of people with learning disabilities also suffer from mental health problems

Learning disability is a term which covers different conditions & syndromes. This course aims to provide an insight into the most common forms of learning disability. 

The course will also examine ways of maximising a person’s independence and development it looks specifically at:

  • Exploring the current definitions of Learning Disabilities
  • Understand the factors that cause Learning Disabilities
  • Examine the types of learning disabilities  
  • Understand the diagnosis of these conditions
  • Examine the legislative requirements which apply to the support of those who live with a disability
  • Communication and person centred thinking in supporting Service Users who live with a learning disability
  • Examine ways to reduce challenging behaviour
  • Explore behavioural techniques to reinforce positive behaviour

This training course is aimed at professionals in any sector, wanting to learn more about eating disorders. It is particularly useful to those new to Learning Disabilities settings.

A general understanding of the issues associated with learning disabilities will be established.

This course has been developed and mapped to:

  • White Paper, 'Valuing People' Care and Support White Paper
  • Transforming Care for People with Learning Disabilities – 'Next Steps'
  •  National Plan- 'Building the Right Support'
  • NICE guidelines for Learning Disabilities NG11

The course will be delivered using a range of methods and resources including: Group discussions,  small group activities, case studies, scenarios and film:

The session will take place here at our training rooms in West Derby on Wednesday 21st June 2017 – AM Session 9:30AM - 12:45PM


The training​ cost  ​is FREE to members who are fully subscribed to the 2017 financial year and for non-members, a nominal fee of ​£16.50 per person.

Please note that there is a limit of 3 free places per organisation that LSCP members can book, should you require more, we can place those names on a reserve list and contact you if we have the capacity to accommodate them.


If a delegate does not attend a course, and we have not been previously informed by email, the employer of that individual will still be invoiced for the applicable amount.


The costs includes learning materials, handouts, slides and certificates will be sent on receipt of payment. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be served during the day, lunch however will not.
