'The Journey of a Child Through Care' - Training

posted Oct 30, 2017, 9:21 AM by Rebecca Barker   [ updated Oct 30, 2017, 9:21 AM ]

Unicef stated in its Millennium Report ‘The State of the World’s Children’ that although huge advances have been made globally in recognising and responding to the needs and the rights of children during the twentieth centre, there is still a significant population of children who grow up in unacceptable conditions and do not reach their potential

Professor Eileen Munro in her Review of Child Protection in England (2011) emphasises the importance of early intervention. By ensuring earlier identification and support we can help to prevent an escalation of concerns.

In light of this LSCP is hosting this half-day session ‘The Journey of a Child Through Care’. This will be appropriate for any individual working with children and young people in either education, early years or social care, who are looked after outside of the family.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the session learners will be able to:

  • Describe and apply the legislation, theories, basic concepts, principles, codes of practice, policies and procedures relevant to their working practice
  • Recognise their own occupational competence and reflect on what is good care practice and how they are responsible for their own development
  • Examine those individuals who are involved in the  decision-making process
  • Review our Practice in supporting children

The session aims to help workers understand the needs and experiences of infants, children and young people in care and the importance of listening and acting on their wishes and feelings. .

Aims of the course

  • Understand the child’s experiences on their journey through care and importance of the voice of child being central to decision making.
  • Understanding of issues that may impact on the child’s journey.
  • Raised awareness of issues faced by practitioners and carers.
