The main focus of the Safeguarding Adults Investigation is to gather all relevant information, including interviewing any relevant people, to come to a decision about whether the allegation can be substantiated, and the ways in which an individual can be supported to prevent future abuse. As a senior manager you are responsible for making important critical decisions involving your staff, patients or the public. Most of the time this isn’t a problem but, what happens when things go wrong? What happens when you have to justify your decisions in the public arena, when every aspect of your decision-making process is scrutinised and you have to defend your actions in an Employment Tribunal, a Civil Court or maybe even a Coroner’s Court? How well equipped are you to write a professional report and then defend it and yourself when your whole integrity and credibility are being ruthlessly attacked by a cross-examining lawyer?
