AIDS Awareness (F2F)
This course introduces HIV and AIDS, helping learners understand the conditions, how HIV is transmitted, and the importance of prevention, treatment, and respectful support.
Learning Outcomes
The AIDS Awareness course provides learners with a clear understanding of HIV and AIDS, including the nature of the conditions and how they can affect the body. Participants will explore the main components of the immune system and develop an understanding of how HIV affects the body’s ability to protect itself from infections and illness.
The course examines the main routes of HIV transmission, helping learners distinguish between genuine risks and common myths or misconceptions about how HIV is acquired. This supports greater awareness while helping to challenge stigma and misinformation surrounding HIV and AIDS.
Learners will explore the signs and symptoms associated with advanced HIV and AIDS-related illnesses and develop awareness of the importance of appropriate medical assessment and ongoing healthcare. The session will also consider how HIV is treated and managed and how effective treatment can support an individual’s health and wellbeing.
Participants will gain an overview of medications and treatment approaches used in the management of HIV and AIDS-related illnesses. The course highlights the importance of treatment adherence, professional healthcare support, and appropriate monitoring as part of effective long-term management.
The training also explores the psychological and emotional impact of living with HIV, including the potential effects of stigma, discrimination, anxiety, and concerns about relationships or disclosure. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on promoting accurate knowledge, challenging misconceptions, and providing respectful, compassionate, and non-discriminatory support to individuals living with HIV.
By the end of this course, participants will have developed a greater understanding of HIV and AIDS and feel more confident in recognising their impact, challenging misconceptions, and providing informed and respectful support.
