Alzheimer’s Awareness (Online)
This course introduces Alzheimer’s disease, helping learners understand the condition, recognise common signs and symptoms, and provide compassionate, person-centred support to individuals living with Alzheimer’s.
Learning Outcomes
The Alzheimer’s Awareness course provides learners with a clear understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and how it can affect individuals over time. Participants will explore a clinical overview of the condition, gaining insight into how Alzheimer’s develops and the changes it can cause within the brain.
The course examines the possible causes and risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease, helping learners understand the factors that may contribute to its development. Participants will also explore the common signs and symptoms, including changes in memory, thinking, communication, orientation, and the ability to carry out everyday activities.
Learners will gain awareness of medications commonly used in the treatment and management of Alzheimer’s disease, including how these may help manage symptoms and support an individual’s quality of life.
The training also explores how Alzheimer’s can influence behaviour, emotions, and communication. Participants will consider why changes in behaviour may occur and how these can sometimes be a way of communicating needs, discomfort, confusion, or distress.
Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on increasing understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and promoting compassionate, person-centred approaches that support dignity, independence, wellbeing, and quality of life.
By the end of this course, participants will understand Alzheimer’s disease and how it affects the brain, recognise common signs and symptoms, be aware of causes and treatment options, and understand how the condition can impact behaviour and daily life.1
