Awareness of Asthma (Virtual)
This course introduces asthma, helping learners understand the condition, recognise common triggers and symptoms, and respond appropriately to support individuals experiencing asthma symptoms or attacks.
Learning Outcomes
The Awareness of Asthma course provides learners with a clear introduction to asthma and how it affects the airways and breathing. Participants will develop an understanding of what asthma is, how the condition develops, and how it can affect individuals in different ways.
The course explores common triggers that may cause asthma symptoms to worsen, such as allergens, exercise, cold air, infections, or environmental factors. Learners will gain awareness of the typical signs and symptoms of asthma, helping them recognise when an individual may be experiencing breathing difficulties or increased risk of an asthma attack.
Participants will also explore how asthma symptoms can be treated and managed effectively. The session introduces common medications and devices used to control asthma, including inhalers and spacers, and explains how they help individuals manage their condition.
A key focus of the training is understanding how to respond if an asthma attack occurs. Learners will gain knowledge of the appropriate steps to take to support someone experiencing an asthma attack, ensuring a calm and timely response while seeking further medical help when necessary.
The course also highlights the importance of maintaining accurate records of asthma symptoms and attacks, supporting effective monitoring and communication with healthcare professionals. By increasing awareness and understanding, the training helps learners respond confidently and appropriately when supporting individuals living with asthma.
By the end of this course, participants will understand what asthma is, recognise common triggers and symptoms, know how asthma is managed and treated, respond appropriately to an asthma attack, and maintain accurate records of asthma incidents.
