This course provides an overview of Frontotemporal Dementia, helping learners understand its causes, key symptoms, and how it differs from other forms of dementia to support informed awareness and care.

Learning Outcomes

The Awareness of Frontotemporal Dementia course provides learners with a clear and detailed understanding of this complex and less common form of dementia. Participants will explore the clinical definition of Frontotemporal Dementia, gaining insight into how it affects specific areas of the brain that control behaviour, personality, and language. The course also examines who is most commonly affected, helping learners understand how this condition can present at a younger age than other types of dementia.

Learners will explore the wide range of signs and symptoms associated with Frontotemporal Dementia, including changes in behaviour, emotional responses, communication, and social interaction. The course explains the causes of the condition and outlines the diagnostic process, giving participants a better understanding of how Frontotemporal Dementia is identified and differentiated from other neurological conditions.

A key focus of the session is the different types of Frontotemporal Dementia. Participants will examine the behavioural variant, which can affect personality, judgement, and social conduct, as well as the language variants, which impact speech, understanding, and communication. The course also explores how Frontotemporal Dementia can overlap with motor disorders, helping learners recognise physical symptoms that may develop alongside cognitive and behavioural changes.

By the end of the course, learners will have a stronger understanding of Frontotemporal Dementia, its progression, and how it affects individuals and their daily lives, enabling them to recognise symptoms and respond with greater awareness and confidence.
