Learning Outcomes
The Data Privacy Awareness course provides learners with a clear and practical understanding of how personal information must be handled within health and social care settings. The session introduces the core principles and terminology of Information Governance (IG), helping participants understand the frameworks and standards that underpin safe, lawful, and responsible data handling.
Learners will explore key data security terms and concepts, gaining confidence in recognising what constitutes personal, sensitive, and confidential information. The course highlights why strong data security is essential to delivering safe and effective care, demonstrating how good practice protects service users, supports trust, and reduces organisational risk.
Participants will also examine the legal responsibilities surrounding data protection, including the requirements set out in national guidance and legislation such as the Data Protection Act and UK GDPR. This ensures learners understand not only what the law expects, but also how these expectations translate into everyday practice.
By the end of the session, learners will have a solid understanding of why data privacy matters, the risks associated with poor information handling, and the importance of maintaining high standards to safeguard both individuals and organisations.
