Develop as a Reflective Practitioner (F2F)
This course helps learners evaluate their experiences, recognise areas for development, use reflection to improve their professional practice and the quality of care they provide.
Learning Outcomes
The Develop as a Reflective Practitioner course provides learners with a clear understanding of the role and importance of reflective practice within social care. Participants will explore how reflection can be used to review experiences, learn from practice, and identify opportunities to improve their knowledge, skills, and professional development.
The course introduces a range of models of reflective practice and helps learners understand how structured reflection can support meaningful learning. Participants will examine the differences between description, reflection, and analysis, developing greater confidence in moving beyond simply describing an experience to considering why events occurred and what can be learned from them.
Learners will explore Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle and how its different stages can be used to examine experiences systematically. The training will consider how reflecting on feelings, actions, outcomes, and alternative approaches can support improved decision-making and future practice.
The course examines how reflective practice contributes to continuous professional development and helps individuals recognise their strengths, learning needs, and areas for improvement. Participants will also explore the wider benefits of reflection, including increased self-awareness, improved problem-solving, stronger professional judgement, and better outcomes for the people they support.
Learners will consider common barriers to reflective practice, such as limited time, confidence, workplace pressures, and difficulty discussing challenging experiences. The session explores practical approaches that can help overcome these barriers and make reflection a regular and meaningful part of professional practice.
By the end of this course, participants will have developed a greater understanding of reflective practice and feel more confident in using reflection to support their learning, professional development, and continuous improvement in social care.
