Diabetes Awareness (Online)
This course introduces diabetes, helping learners understand the condition, recognise common signs and symptoms, and develop awareness of effective management.
Learning Outcomes
The Diabetes Awareness course provides learners with a clear understanding of diabetes and how the condition can affect an individual’s health and everyday life. Participants will explore the different types of diabetes, their key characteristics, and the importance of appropriate monitoring and management.
The course examines common co-morbidities and health complications associated with diabetes, helping learners understand why effective management is important for maintaining health and reducing the risk of further complications.
Participants will explore the principles of a healthy, balanced diet and the role nutrition can play in supporting diabetes management. Learners will develop an awareness of how appropriate food choices and healthy lifestyle habits can contribute to maintaining stable blood glucose levels and overall wellbeing.
The training helps learners recognise the signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) and hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose). Participants will explore how these conditions may present differently and why early recognition and an appropriate response are important.
The course also provides guidance on managing hypo- and hyperglycaemic episodes in line with an individual’s care plan and appropriate procedures. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on increasing awareness, promoting safe practice, and providing effective, person-centred support to individuals living with diabetes.
By the end of this course, participants will have developed a greater understanding of diabetes and feel more confident in recognising, managing, and supporting the needs of individuals living with the condition.
