Learning Outcomes
The Dissociative Disorders Awareness course provides learners with a comprehensive introduction to dissociation and the range of disorders associated with it. Participants will explore what dissociation means and how it can affect memory, identity, awareness, and perception, helping to build a clearer understanding of experiences that may often be misunderstood or misinterpreted.
The course examines the possible causes of dissociative disorders, including trauma, stress, and psychological coping mechanisms. Learners will gain insight into how dissociation can develop as a response to overwhelming experiences and how it may present differently from person to person. The session also introduces common types of dissociative disorders and their key characteristics, supporting learners to recognise signs and symptoms in a sensitive and informed way.
Participants will explore how dissociative disorders can impact daily life, relationships, communication, and emotional wellbeing. The course highlights the importance of creating safe, supportive environments and responding calmly and appropriately when individuals experience dissociative episodes. Practical discussion focuses on understanding behaviour, reducing stigma, and improving awareness through informed responses.
By the end of the course, learners will have a stronger understanding of dissociative disorders, enabling them to recognise potential indicators, respond with empathy and confidence, and contribute to supportive and informed care environments.
By the end of this course, participants will understand what dissociative disorders are, recognise their causes and symptoms, and respond with greater awareness and confidence when supporting individuals experiencing dissociation.
