Domestic Abuse (F2F)
This course helps learners recognise the signs and different forms of abuse, understand its impact, and respond appropriately to individuals who may be experiencing domestic abuse.
Learning Outcomes
The Awareness of Domestic Abuse course provides learners with a clear understanding of domestic abuse within both historical and current contexts. Participants will explore the definition of domestic abuse and develop awareness of its prevalence and the different ways it can affect individuals, families, and communities.
The course examines the dynamics of domestic abuse, including patterns of power and control that may occur within mixed-gender and same-sex relationships. Learners will explore how abuse can take different forms and recognise that domestic abuse can affect people regardless of their background, gender, age, or circumstances.
Participants will develop an understanding of who may experience domestic abuse and the potential physical, emotional, psychological, social, and financial effects it can have. The training also considers the impact of domestic abuse on children and how exposure to abusive environments can affect their safety and wellbeing.
The course introduces relevant legislation and legal frameworks relating to domestic abuse, helping learners understand the protections available and their professional responsibilities when concerns arise.
Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on recognising the importance of good practice when supporting victims of domestic abuse. Learners will develop greater confidence in responding sensitively, maintaining dignity and confidentiality, and ensuring individuals are appropriately supported and signposted to further help where required.
By the end of this course, participants will understand domestic abuse and its dynamics, recognise the impact on individuals and children, understand relevant legislation and legal frameworks, and apply appropriate, sensitive practices when supporting those affected by domestic abuse.
