Duty of Care (F2F)

The Duty of Care course provides learners with a clear understanding of their professional responsibilities when providing safe, effective, and person-centred care. Participants will explore the meaning and implications of Duty of Care and how it influences everyday decisions and working practices within health and social care.

The course examines the dilemmas and conflicts that may arise when fulfilling a Duty of Care, particularly when balancing an individual’s rights, choices, independence, and safety. Learners will explore the support and guidance available when difficult situations occur and understand the importance of following organisational policies and appropriate procedures.

Participants will develop an understanding of Duty of Candour, including CQC Regulation 20 and the responsibilities it places on health and social care providers. The training explores the meaning of candour and the importance of being open, honest, and transparent when something has gone wrong.

The course also examines what constitutes an appropriate apology and helps learners understand that communicating openly and sensitively is an important part of responding to incidents. Participants will consider how effective communication can help maintain trust and ensure individuals and their representatives are treated with dignity and respect.

Learners will also develop awareness of the CQC’s role in relation to Duty of Candour and how breaches of regulatory requirements may be addressed. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on professional accountability, openness, safe practice, and maintaining high standards of care.
