Eating Disorders (Online)
This course introduces eating disorders, helping learners understand different types, recognise common signs and symptoms, and develop awareness of how to provide support.
Learning Outcomes
The Eating Disorders course provides learners with a clear understanding of eating disorders and the complex ways they can affect an individual’s physical health, emotional wellbeing, thoughts, behaviours, and everyday life. Participants will explore what an eating disorder is and develop awareness of different presentations and their potential impact.
The course introduces key facts and figures relating to eating disorders and examines factors that may increase an individual’s risk of developing difficulties around eating, food, body image, or weight. Learners will explore possible causes and risks, recognising that eating disorders are complex conditions that can be influenced by a combination of biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors.
Participants will develop awareness of common signs and symptoms that may indicate an eating disorder. The session also explores some of the thoughts and feelings that may sit behind eating-related behaviours, helping learners understand the emotional distress individuals may experience.
The training challenges common myths and misunderstandings surrounding eating disorders, encouraging participants to develop a more informed, compassionate, and non-judgemental perspective. Learners will also explore the relationship between the brain, emotions, and behaviour, including how difficulties with emotional processing may influence an individual’s experiences.
The course provides an overview of key interventions and support approaches that may be used to help individuals affected by eating disorders. Throughout the session, emphasis is placed on early recognition, appropriate professional support, reducing stigma, and responding to individuals with dignity, sensitivity, and person-centred care.
