This course introduces epilepsy, helping learners understand the condition, recognise different types of seizures, and respond appropriately to support individuals.

Learning Outcomes

The Epilepsy Awareness course provides learners with a clear understanding of epilepsy, including the nature of the condition and how commonly it affects individuals. Participants will explore how epilepsy can affect the brain and develop an awareness of the different ways the condition may present.

The course examines the various forms of epilepsy and their clinical features, helping learners recognise different types of seizures and understand how symptoms can vary between individuals. This supports greater confidence in recognising and responding appropriately to individuals with epilepsy.

Learners will explore the diagnostic methods used when epilepsy is suspected, including medical assessments, observations, and investigations that can help healthcare professionals identify and understand seizure activity.

The training also provides an overview of the range of treatments available for epilepsy, including medication and other management approaches used to control seizures and support an individual’s health and wellbeing.

The course also considers the social and occupational impact of epilepsy, including how the condition may affect independence, employment, relationships, and everyday activities. Throughout the training, emphasis is placed on increasing awareness, challenging misconceptions, and promoting supportive, person-centred approaches for individuals living with epilepsy.
