Epilepsy Awareness
This course provides an introduction to epilepsy, helping learners understand the condition, recognise different types of seizures, and respond safely and appropriately when someone experiences a seizure.
Learning Outcomes
The Epilepsy Awareness course provides learners with a clear and informative understanding of epilepsy, including its nature, causes, and how commonly it affects individuals across different age groups. Participants will explore the incidence of epilepsy, helping to build awareness of how widespread the condition is and challenging common misconceptions.
The course introduces the various forms of epilepsy and their clinical features, enabling learners to recognise the differences between seizure types and how they may present in individuals. Learners will also gain an understanding of the diagnostic methods used when epilepsy is suspected, including assessments, observations, and medical investigations.
Participants will explore the range of treatments available for epilepsy, including medication and other management approaches, gaining insight into how seizures can be controlled and monitored over time. The session also highlights the importance of recognising the social and occupational aspects of epilepsy, such as stigma, independence, employment, and daily living challenges.
By the end of the course, learners will have a stronger understanding of epilepsy and the impact it can have on an individual’s health, wellbeing, and quality of life, enabling them to respond with greater confidence and awareness.
By the end of this course, participants will understand the nature of epilepsy, recognise different seizure types, be aware of diagnostic and treatment options, and appreciate the social and occupational impact of the condition on individuals’ lives.
