This course introduces the key principles of health and safety in the workplace, helping learners understand their responsibilities, recognise potential hazards, and promote safe working practices to protect themselves and others.

Learning Outcomes

The Health and Safety at Work course provides learners with an understanding of the key responsibilities and practices required to maintain a safe working environment within social care settings. Participants will explore the importance of health and safety in protecting both staff and the individuals they support, while ensuring services operate in line with legal and organisational requirements.

The course examines the different responsibilities relating to health and safety in social care, helping learners understand their role in identifying hazards, reporting concerns, and promoting safe working practices. Participants will explore how risk assessments are used to identify potential risks and implement measures to reduce harm in the workplace.

Learners will also gain an understanding of procedures for responding to accidents and sudden illness, including how to act quickly and appropriately to protect individuals and seek further assistance when required. The session highlights the importance of infection prevention and control, focusing on how to reduce the spread of infection through safe hygiene practices and awareness.

The training introduces the principles of assisting and moving individuals safely, helping learners understand how to support mobility while reducing the risk of injury to both staff and those receiving care. Participants will also explore the safe handling of hazardous substances and understand how to follow environmental safety procedures within the care setting.

In addition, the course addresses the importance of managing stress in the workplace, recognising how wellbeing contributes to a safe and effective working environment. Learners will gain awareness of procedures for handling medication safely and understand the importance of correct food handling and storage to protect health and prevent contamination.

Overall, the course supports learners in developing the knowledge and confidence needed to promote health, safety, and wellbeing within social care environments.
