Learning Outcomes
The Huntington’s Disease Awareness course provides learners with an understanding of Huntington’s disease and how it affects individuals over time. Participants will explore what Huntington’s disease is, including its progressive nature and how it impacts the brain, movement, and overall functioning.
The course examines the symptoms and characteristics of Huntington’s disease, helping learners recognise how it may affect movement, coordination, cognition, and emotional wellbeing. Participants will also explore the causes and risk factors associated with the condition, including its genetic basis and how it may affect families.
Learners will gain an understanding of the behavioural changes that can occur, such as mood changes, irritability, and difficulties with decision-making. The session also highlights communication, speech, and language difficulties that individuals may experience, helping learners develop awareness of how these challenges can impact daily interactions and relationships.
The training provides an overview of treatment options and management approaches, focusing on how symptoms can be supported through medication, therapies, and person-centred care. Emphasis is placed on understanding the progression of the condition and adapting support to meet changing needs over time.
Throughout the course, learners will develop greater confidence in recognising the impact of Huntington’s disease and supporting individuals in a respectful, informed, and compassionate way.
