This course introduces the principles of infection control, helping learners understand how infections spread and apply safe practices to reduce the risk of infection.

Learning Outcomes

The Infection Control course provides learners with a clear understanding of basic microbiology and how microorganisms can cause and spread infection. Participants will explore the chain of infection, gaining an understanding of how individuals become infected and how breaking this chain can help prevent the transmission of illness.

The course examines standard infection prevention and control precautions, including the importance of effective hand hygiene and the correct techniques required to reduce the spread of microorganisms. Learners will also explore the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other preventative measures that support safe practice.

Participants will develop awareness of common healthcare-associated infections and illnesses, including MRSA, Clostridioides difficile (C. diff), and Norovirus, and their potential impact within health and social care environments. The training highlights the precautions required to prevent and control Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs), particularly when supporting vulnerable individuals.

Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on good hygiene, safe working practices, and individual responsibility for preventing infection. Learners will develop practical knowledge that can be applied within their roles to reduce infection risks and maintain safe environments for themselves, colleagues, and the individuals they support.

What You’ll Learn
