This course provides a clear overview of infection prevention and control, helping learners understand how infections spread and the steps needed to maintain a safe environment.

Learning Outcomes

The Infection Control course gives learners a clear and practical understanding of how infections develop, spread, and can be effectively managed within care settings. Participants will explore the definition of infection control and the key legislation that underpins safe practice, ensuring they understand both their responsibilities and the legal frameworks in place to protect staff and individuals receiving care.

The course explains the main causes of infection and the various methods used to reduce risk, offering insight into how everyday actions can break the chain of transmission. Learners will examine the full infection pathway, gaining awareness of how infections move from one host to another and what measures can stop this process.

A core focus of the session is safe working practice, including the correct use of universal precautions such as hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and effective cleaning techniques. Participants will also learn about a range of common infectious diseases, helping them recognise risks early and respond appropriately.
