Learning Outcomes

The Principles of Leading Teams in Social Care course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of leadership within a social care setting and the important role effective leadership plays in delivering high-quality, person-centred services. Participants will explore the meaning of leadership and how it differs from management, gaining insight into how strong leadership supports team performance, staff wellbeing, and positive outcomes for individuals receiving care.

The course examines a range of leadership roles and styles, helping learners understand how different approaches can influence team culture, communication, and performance. Participants will explore how leadership styles can be adapted to meet the needs of individuals, teams, and situations, promoting flexibility and effective decision-making.

Learners will develop an understanding of team dynamics and behaviours, including how teams form, communicate, and respond to challenges. The session explores common leadership and management theories and models, supporting participants to apply recognised frameworks to real workplace situations.

The training also introduces relevant industry regulations and legislation that guide leadership responsibilities within social care, ensuring leaders understand their role in maintaining safe, compliant, and high-quality services. In addition, participants will explore the importance of debriefing and staff wellbeing, recognising how reflective practice and emotional support contribute to resilience and sustainable team performance.

A key focus of the course is the use of motivational tools in leadership, helping learners understand how to encourage engagement, build confidence, and create a positive working environment where staff feel valued and supported.
