Lone Working (F2F)

The Awareness of Lone Working course provides learners with an understanding of the risks and responsibilities associated with working alone. Participants will explore situations where lone workers may be more vulnerable and develop practical knowledge to help maintain their personal safety while carrying out their duties.

The course helps learners identify behaviours that may challenge and recognise potential risks before situations escalate. Participants will examine common hazards associated with lone working and consider how individual, environmental, and situational factors can affect personal safety.

Learners will explore the use of dynamic risk assessments, developing an understanding of how to continually assess changing situations, identify emerging hazards, and make appropriate decisions to reduce risk. The training encourages a proactive approach to personal safety and risk management.

The course also examines how effective communication can be used to solve problems, manage difficult situations, and reduce the likelihood of conflict. Participants will explore verbal and non-verbal communication techniques and consider how their own communication and behaviour may influence an interaction.

Learners will develop an understanding of the factors that can influence human responses during conflict, including stress, fear, frustration, and environmental pressures. The session explores practical strategies for recognising, assessing, and reducing risks in conflict situations while maintaining professional boundaries and personal safety.

Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on risk awareness, effective communication, appropriate decision-making, and safe working practices to help lone workers confidently manage challenging or potentially unsafe situations.
