Medication Competency Assessor Training (F2F)
This course equips learners with the knowledge and skills to assess medication competency, ensuring staff manage medicines safely, and in line with organisation procedures.
Learning Outcomes
The Medication Competency Assessor Training course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to assess staff competency in the safe handling and administration of medication. Participants will explore the role and responsibilities of a Competency Assessor, including how to ensure assessments are fair, consistent, and focused on maintaining safe practice.
The course examines how to effectively plan and prepare for a competency assessment, including communicating the assessment process clearly to the individual being assessed. Learners will explore how to observe practice, gather appropriate evidence, and make informed assessment decisions based on demonstrated knowledge, skills, and competence.
Participants will develop confidence in providing clear and constructive feedback following an assessment. The training also covers how to respond when unsafe medication practice is identified, including providing immediate verbal and written feedback and taking appropriate action to protect individuals from harm.
The course explores relevant legislation, organisational policies, procedures, and guidelines relating to the safe handling of medication, helping assessors understand the standards against which competency should be measured.
Learners will also gain practical experience in completing and documenting competency assessments, including maintaining appropriate evidence and producing a portfolio of completed assessment records. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on promoting accountability, consistency, and safe medication practice within the workplace.
By the end of this course, participants will understand the role of a Medication Competency Assessor, plan and conduct effective assessments, make informed competency decisions, provide constructive feedback, respond to unsafe practice, and complete accurate assessment documentation in line with relevant legislation and procedures.
