Medication Competency Assessor Training (F2F)
This course prepares learners to assess staff competence in medication management, ensuring safe, compliant, and confident practice across care settings.
Learning Outcomes
The Medication Competency Assessor Training course equips learners with the knowledge and skills needed to assess staff who are responsible for handling and administering medication. Participants will explore the role and responsibilities of a Competency Assessor, gaining a clear understanding of how their decisions support safe practice, accountability, and high standards of care.
The course guides learners through how to plan and prepare for an assessment, including understanding what evidence is needed and how to create a fair, structured, and supportive assessment environment. Participants will also learn how to clearly explain the assessment process to the individual being assessed, helping to reduce anxiety and promote openness and understanding.
Learners will be shown how to observe practice, ask appropriate questions, and make informed assessment decisions based on competence, knowledge, and safe working practices. The session also covers how to give clear, constructive feedback that supports learning, development, and improvement.
In addition, the course explores the legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines that underpin the safe handling of medication, ensuring assessors understand their legal and professional responsibilities. By the end of the session, participants will feel confident in carrying out fair, accurate, and effective competency assessments that promote safety, quality, and best practice in medication management.
