Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (Online)
This course introduces Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, helping learners understand its symptoms, and impact on daily life, while promoting awareness and person-centred support.
Learning Outcomes
The Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Awareness course provides learners with a clear understanding of OCD and how it affects an individual’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Participants will explore what OCD is, gaining insight into the condition and how obsessions and compulsions can significantly impact a person’s daily life and wellbeing.
The course examines the history and prevalence of OCD, helping learners understand how common the condition is and how awareness and understanding have developed over time. Participants will learn to recognise the difference between obsessions and compulsions, exploring how intrusive thoughts can lead to repetitive behaviours or mental rituals that individuals may feel unable to control.
Learners will explore the possible causes of OCD, including biological, psychological, and environmental factors, and examine how the condition affects the brain. The session provides an overview of current understanding of the neurological processes associated with OCD, helping learners appreciate why the condition can be so persistent and distressing.
The training also introduces the assessment and treatment of OCD, including how the condition is identified and the range of interventions available, such as psychological therapies, medication, and supportive strategies. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting compassionate, person-centred support for individuals living with OCD.
By the end of this course, participants will understand what OCD is, recognise obsessions and compulsions, understand its causes and how it affects the brain, and be aware of the assessment and treatment options available.
