This course introduces the Prevent duty, helping learners understand how to recognise signs of radicalisation, respond appropriately to concerns, and support safeguarding practices aimed at preventing extremism and protecting vulnerable individuals.

Learning Outcomes

The Prevent Training course provides learners with an understanding of the Prevent strategy and its role within safeguarding responsibilities. Participants will explore the purpose of Prevent as part of the UK’s wider counter-terrorism approach, focusing on protecting individuals who may be vulnerable to radicalisation and supporting early intervention through awareness and appropriate action.

The course helps learners recognise the signs of radicalisation and factors that may increase an individual’s vulnerability to extremist influence. Participants will examine how radicalisation can occur, the different forms it may take, and the importance of remaining alert to changes in behaviour, attitudes, or circumstances that may indicate concern.

Learners will develop knowledge of how to respond appropriately when concerns arise, including how to have supportive conversations, maintain professional boundaries, and follow safeguarding procedures. The training emphasises the importance of responding proportionately, without judgement, while prioritising the safety and wellbeing of individuals.

The session also explains how to report and refer concerns safely, ensuring participants understand local safeguarding processes and the importance of accurate information sharing. In addition, learners will explore their individual responsibilities under the Prevent Duty, gaining confidence in applying this duty within their professional roles as part of wider safeguarding practice.
