Professional Boundaries
This course explores the importance of maintaining professional boundaries, helping learners understand how to build safe, respectful relationships while protecting both themselves and those they support.
Learning Outcomes
The Professional Boundaries course helps learners understand the importance of maintaining clear, safe, and respectful relationships within health and social care settings. Participants will explore what professional boundaries are, why they exist, and how they protect both staff and the individuals they support. The course highlights how boundaries help create trust, maintain professionalism, and ensure care is delivered in an ethical and appropriate manner.
Learners will examine the differences between professional and personal relationships, recognising how boundaries can become blurred and the risks this may create. The session explores common situations where boundary challenges may arise, including communication, social media, emotional involvement, gifts, and dual relationships. Participants will also consider the potential consequences of boundary breaches for individuals, staff members, and organisations.
The course encourages reflection on personal values, attitudes, and behaviours, helping learners recognise how self-awareness supports professional decision-making. Practical guidance is provided on how to manage difficult situations, maintain appropriate limits, and respond confidently when boundaries are tested.
By the end of the session, participants will have a stronger understanding of professional expectations and feel more confident in maintaining clear boundaries that promote safety, respect, and positive working relationships.
By the end of this course, participants will understand the importance of professional boundaries, recognise situations where boundaries may be challenged, and apply appropriate strategies to maintain safe, respectful, and professional relationships.
