Safeguarding “Beyond Alerting” for Managers
This course supports managers in understanding their responsibilities once a safeguarding concern has been raised, focusing on decision-making, coordination, and ensuring safe, effective follow-up throughout the safeguarding process.
Learning Outcomes
The Safeguarding “Beyond Alerting” course equips managers with the knowledge and confidence needed to lead safeguarding practice effectively once a concern has been raised. The session begins by grounding learners in the legal framework and best practice guidance that underpin safeguarding adults, ensuring managers understand their statutory duties and the expectations placed upon their role.
Participants will revisit the different types of adult abuse and the key indicators associated with each, strengthening their ability to recognise concerns quickly and accurately. The course also explores high-risk factors that can increase vulnerability, helping managers identify situations where individuals may be more susceptible to harm and require closer monitoring or intervention.
A significant part of the session focuses on the full safeguarding process, giving managers a clear understanding of what happens beyond the initial alert. Learners examine each stage in detail — including alerting, referring, investigating, and monitoring — to understand how information flows, who is involved, and how decisions are made. This structured overview helps managers feel confident in coordinating actions, ensuring timely responses, and maintaining robust oversight throughout the safeguarding journey.
The course also examines the specific responsibilities of registered managers within safeguarding procedures. Participants will explore leadership expectations, how to support staff, how to manage internal reporting systems, and how to ensure records are accurate, factual, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
By the end of the session, managers will have a strong understanding of how to lead safeguarding practice beyond the initial alert, ensuring individuals are protected through effective decision-making, clear communication, and proactive management.
By the end of this course, participants will have a clear understanding of their responsibilities as managers within the safeguarding process, including how to recognise risk, follow appropriate procedures beyond the initial alert, and lead effective responses that ensure individuals are protected and best practice is upheld.
