Safeguarding ‘First Contact’ (F2F)
This course introduces safeguarding at first contact, helping learners recognise concerns, respond to disclosures, and follow appropriate safeguarding procedures.
Learning Outcomes
The Safeguarding ‘First Contact’ course provides learners with a clear understanding of safeguarding principles and the vital role of first contact in protecting adults at risk. Participants will explore the history, context, and key definitions of safeguarding, developing an understanding of why safeguarding is essential and how it supports the safety, rights, and wellbeing of individuals.
The course examines the different categories of abuse in accordance with safeguarding policy, helping learners recognise the various types of abuse, their indicators, and patterns of concern. Participants will develop the skills to identify potential signs of abuse or neglect and understand how these may present in different situations.
Learners will explore how to respond appropriately to disclosures, allegations, and concerns about abuse, including the importance of accurate recording, timely reporting, and maintaining a person-centred approach. The training provides an overview of local safeguarding adults’ procedures, clarifying the roles and responsibilities of professionals involved in safeguarding and the actions required when concerns arise.
The session also considers safeguarding from the perspective of the individual experiencing abuse, helping learners understand the potential emotional and psychological impact on victims. Participants will identify sources of support, advice, and information available to both professionals and individuals, ensuring appropriate guidance and assistance can be accessed when needed.
Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on preventative measures that reduce the risk of abuse and promote safer environments. Learners will develop the confidence to recognise safeguarding concerns at the earliest opportunity and respond appropriately in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
By the end of this course, participants will understand the principles of safeguarding, recognise the signs and categories of abuse, respond appropriately to disclosures and concerns, understand local safeguarding procedures, and apply preventative measures to help protect adults at risk.
