This course provides an introduction to schizophrenia, helping learners understand its symptoms, possible causes, and impact on an individual’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviour, while promoting awareness, empathy, and supportive responses.
Learning Outcomes
The Schizophrenia Awareness course provides learners with a clear understanding of schizophrenia, supporting greater awareness of how the condition affects an individual’s thoughts, emotions, perceptions, and behaviour. Participants will explore what schizophrenia is, helping to challenge common myths and misconceptions while promoting a more informed and compassionate understanding.
The course examines possible causes of schizophrenia, including biological, psychological, and environmental factors, highlighting that the condition develops differently for each individual. Learners will recognise the range of symptoms associated with schizophrenia, including positive, negative, and cognitive symptoms, and how these may present in everyday situations.
Participants will also be introduced to the different types of schizophrenia and how experiences can vary between individuals. The session explores treatment options available, including medication, psychological therapies, and supportive interventions that help individuals manage symptoms and maintain wellbeing.
In addition, the course considers some of the risks associated with schizophrenia, such as social isolation, stigma, and challenges with daily functioning, emphasising the importance of early support and understanding. By increasing knowledge and awareness, the training helps learners respond more confidently and supportively when working with individuals experiencing schizophrenia.
