Stroke Awareness (Online)
This course introduces stroke, helping learners understand the condition, recognise key signs and symptoms, and develop awareness of appropriate treatment, support, and recovery.
Learning Outcomes
The Stroke Awareness course provides learners with a clear understanding of stroke, including what happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or affected. Participants will explore the different types of stroke and develop awareness of how each type can affect individuals in different ways.
The course focuses on recognising the key signs and symptoms of a stroke and understanding the importance of acting quickly when a stroke is suspected. Learners will gain awareness of emergency responses and the treatments that may be available to reduce the impact of a stroke and support recovery.
Participants will explore the fundamentals of stroke, including common risk factors and circumstances that may increase an individual’s likelihood of experiencing a stroke. The training also provides an overview of medications and other treatment approaches that may be used during emergency care, recovery, and ongoing management.
The course examines some of the physical challenges that may occur following a stroke, including difficulties with swallowing, mobility, and everyday activities. Learners will also explore communication difficulties that can result from a stroke and consider how to adapt their approach when supporting individuals with speech or language difficulties.
The session also considers the psychological and emotional impact of stroke, including changes in mood, confidence, independence, and wellbeing. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on increasing awareness, recognising individual needs, and providing compassionate, person-centred support to individuals affected by stroke.
By the end of this course, participants will have developed a greater understanding of stroke, its impact on individuals, and the importance of recognising and responding appropriately to support positive outcomes.
