This course introduces the key principles of effective supervision, helping managers develop the skills needed to support staff, promote professional development, and maintain high standards of practice within their teams.

Learning Outcomes

The Supervision Skills for Managers course supports learners in developing the knowledge and confidence needed to carry out effective supervision within a team or organisational setting. Participants will explore what supervision is and what it is not, helping to clarify the purpose of supervision as a supportive, structured process that promotes professional development, accountability, and high standards of practice.

The course examines the importance of supervision and the role supervisors play in supporting staff performance, wellbeing, and continuous improvement. Learners will explore how effective supervision helps build strong working relationships, encourages reflective practice, and ensures staff feel supported in their roles.

Participants will gain an understanding of how to carry out supervision in line with organisational procedures, including how to use supervision paperwork and documentation appropriately. The session highlights the importance of accurate recording, clear objectives, and structured conversations that support both staff development and service quality.

The training also focuses on developing the confidence to handle difficult or sensitive situations that may arise during supervision. Learners will explore strategies for addressing concerns, managing challenging conversations, and maintaining professionalism while supporting positive outcomes.

In addition, the course explores how to provide constructive feedback in a clear, supportive, and effective way. Participants will learn how feedback can motivate staff, encourage improvement, and strengthen team performance when delivered appropriately. The course aims to equip managers with the practical skills needed to lead meaningful supervision sessions that support both staff development and organisational success.
