Supervision Skills for Supervisors (F2F)
This course introduces the key principles of effective supervision, helping supervisors develop the skills and confidence to support staff while providing constructive feedback.
Learning Outcomes
The Supervision Skills for Supervisors course provides learners with a clear understanding of the purpose and value of effective supervision within the workplace. Participants will explore what supervision is and what it is not, helping them understand how structured supervision can support staff development, performance, wellbeing, and professional accountability.
The course examines the importance of the supervisor’s role in creating a supportive and productive working environment. Learners will consider how effective supervision can strengthen working relationships, encourage open communication, identify development needs, and help maintain high standards of practice.
Participants will explore how to follow supervision procedures and complete relevant paperwork accurately and effectively. The training highlights the importance of preparing for supervision meetings, maintaining appropriate records, agreeing actions, and following up on objectives to ensure the supervision process remains meaningful and consistent.
The course also develops learners’ confidence in handling difficult or sensitive situations that may arise during supervision. Participants will explore approaches for managing challenging conversations professionally, addressing concerns appropriately, and maintaining clear boundaries while supporting positive outcomes.
Learners will also develop an understanding of how to provide constructive feedback in a clear, balanced, and supportive way. The course demonstrates how effective feedback can recognise good practice, identify areas for improvement, encourage professional development, and motivate staff to achieve positive outcomes.
Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on developing confident, fair, and supportive supervision practices that contribute to staff wellbeing, professional development, and effective team performance.
By the end of this course, participants will have developed a greater understanding of effective supervision and feel more confident in supporting staff, managing challenging situations, and promoting positive professional development.
