Understanding Reablement (F2F)
This course helps learners understand how to support individuals to regain skills, build confidence, and maximise their independence through person-centred care.
Learning Outcomes
The Understanding Reablement course provides learners with a clear understanding of the background, principles, and purpose of reablement. Participants will explore what the term reablement means and how this approach supports individuals to regain skills, confidence, and independence following illness, injury, or a change in their circumstances.
The course examines factors that can empower or disempower individuals during the reablement process. Learners will consider how attitudes, communication, choice, and the level of support provided can influence an individual’s motivation, confidence, and ability to achieve greater independence.
Participants will explore the physical and psychological barriers that may impede recovery, including reduced mobility, fear, anxiety, low confidence, and loss of motivation. The training will help learners recognise these barriers and consider appropriate ways to support individuals in overcoming them.
The course highlights the benefits of following a person-centred model of care, ensuring individuals are actively involved in decisions about their support and encouraged to work towards meaningful and achievable goals. Learners will explore how promoting choice, dignity, independence, and positive risk-taking can contribute to successful reablement outcomes.
Participants will also be introduced to Prochaska’s Model of Change, developing an understanding of the different stages individuals may experience when making changes and how appropriate support can encourage progress.
The training emphasises the importance of detailed and accurate record keeping throughout the reablement process. Learners will understand how effective documentation can be used to monitor progress, communicate changes, review goals, and ensure continuity of support.
Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on empowering individuals, promoting independence, and delivering effective person-centred support that helps people achieve the best possible outcomes.
By the end of this course, participants will understand the principles of reablement, recognise factors that can support or hinder recovery, apply person-centred approaches, understand Prochaska’s Model of Change, and maintain accurate records to support individual progress and independence.
