Vascular Dementia (Virtual)

The Vascular Dementia Awareness course provides learners with an understanding of dementia and how vascular dementia specifically affects an individual’s thinking, memory, and daily functioning. Participants will explore what dementia is, gaining an overview of how the condition develops and how it can impact different areas of cognitive ability and behaviour.

The course focuses on vascular dementia, helping learners recognise the common signs and symptoms associated with the condition. Participants will explore how vascular dementia may present, including changes in memory, reasoning, communication, and the ability to carry out everyday tasks. The session highlights how symptoms can vary depending on the areas of the brain affected.

Learners will also gain awareness of how vascular dementia is diagnosed and the approaches used to manage the condition. This includes an overview of assessments, medical investigations, and treatment options that may help manage symptoms and support overall health and wellbeing.

The training also focuses on how to effectively support a person living with vascular dementia. Participants will explore person-centred approaches that promote dignity, independence, and emotional wellbeing while adapting communication and care strategies to meet individual needs. Emphasis is placed on understanding the person behind the condition and creating supportive environments that help individuals feel safe, respected, and supported.
