This course explores the importance of good-quality sleep, helping learners understand how sleep affects physical and mental wellbeing.

Learning Outcomes

The Wellbeing – Sleep Your Way to a Better Day session is designed to help care workers understand the importance of good-quality sleep and the positive impact it can have on physical health, mental wellbeing, and performance at work. Working in care can involve demanding schedules, shift work, emotional pressures, and changing routines, all of which can affect sleep and overall wellbeing.

The session explores how sleep supports the body and mind, including its role in energy levels, concentration, memory, mood, and emotional resilience. Participants will consider how poor or insufficient sleep can affect everyday functioning, including motivation, decision-making, communication, and the ability to manage stressful situations.

Learners will explore common factors that can interfere with healthy sleep, such as stress, irregular working patterns, screen use, caffeine, lifestyle habits, and difficulty switching off after a demanding day or shift. The session will encourage participants to recognise their own sleep patterns and identify habits or circumstances that may be affecting the quality of their rest.

The course introduces practical approaches for improving sleep, including developing consistent routines, creating a comfortable sleep environment, managing stress before bedtime, and adopting healthier habits that support relaxation and recovery. Particular consideration is given to the challenges faced by care workers who work shifts or irregular hours.

Throughout the session, emphasis is placed on realistic and achievable changes that can support better sleep and overall wellbeing. Participants will be encouraged to consider sleep as an important part of self-care, helping them feel more rested, resilient, focused, and prepared for the demands of both their professional and personal lives.
