From Warehouse Work to Professional Care Giving

Before joining the Routeway in Adult Social Care programme, Belema was employed as a warehouse worker. While this role provided stability and practical experience, it did not offer the sense of purpose or progression Belema was seeking. Over time, a growing desire to work in a people-focused role, one that made a direct and positive difference to others, prompted reflection on a career change.

Motivation for a Career Change

Belema was motivated to move into adult social care by a strong interest in supporting people, improving quality of life, and contributing meaningfully to the community. The opportunity to develop new skills, gain recognised training, and work in a role aligned with personal values made social care an attractive and fulfilling career pathway.

Learning Experience with Liverpool Social Care Partnership

Joining the Routeway programme with Liverpool Social Care Partnership marked a significant turning point. Belema describes the learning experience as supportive, structured and confidence-building. The programme provided a clear introduction to adult social care, covering essential knowledge, values-based practice, and real-world expectations of the sector.

Training sessions were well delivered and accessible, helping Belema to understand professional standards, communication skills, safeguarding responsibilities and person-centred care. The encouragement and guidance from trainers played a key role in building confidence and readiness for employment.

Challenges Overcome

Transitioning from warehouse work into a care-focused role presented challenges. These included adapting to a new professional environment, developing emotional resilience, and gaining confidence in working directly with people who have diverse and complex needs. Through the programme, Belema was able to overcome these challenges by developing practical skills, receiving constructive feedback, and building a strong understanding of professional care responsibilities.

Current Role and Impact of the Programme

Belema is now working as a Professional Caregiver with the NHS, a role that reflects both personal ambition and professional growth. The Routeway programme was instrumental in preparing Belema for this position, providing the foundational knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed.

Belema credits Liverpool Social Care Partnership with opening the door to a new career, supporting the transition into adult social care, and helping to achieve a role that is both rewarding and sustainable.

Looking Ahead

Belema’s journey demonstrates how targeted training and support can enable individuals to successfully change careers and thrive within adult social care. The experience highlights the value of the Routeway programme in developing confident, capable professionals who contribute positively to health and care services.

“I am sincerely grateful to Liverpool Social Care Partnership for providing me with the opportunity to learn and for the empathy and support shown throughout a challenging period.” Belema
