UK Government Launches New Cyber Action Plan
The UK Government has announced a new Government Cyber Action Plan to strengthen cyber security across public services. Launched on 6 January 2026, the Plan recognises that as services become increasingly digital, they must also be secure, resilient and trustworthy.
A new Government Cyber Unit, supported by more than £210 million of investment, will provide stronger national leadership on cyber security and clearer accountability across government. The Plan also introduces coordinated oversight of strategic suppliers that deliver critical services, helping to identify and manage cyber risks that could affect multiple departments.
The Cyber Action Plan will be delivered in phases through to 2029 and beyond, alongside new legislation under the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill, which aims to strengthen protections for essential services.
Together, these measures mark a significant step towards improving cyber resilience and safeguarding public services in an increasingly digital landscape.
